Sponsoring of an Analog Space Mission

Anna Harutyunyan (Armenia) on Terra Nova mission in the LunAres habitat synchronised with real ISS mission Axiom-4

NINECUBES (Switzerland) proudly sponsors Anna (Hanna) Harutyunyan, a robotics engineer and the first Armenian analog astronaut, for the Terra-Nova mission. In addition, NINECUBES is also sponsoring two training days during the «PreFlight» preparation phase May 26 – June 22 in Piła, Poland. Anna’s participation not only represents an important milestone for Armenia but also brings valuable diversity and perspective to the international research efforts in analog space missions.

2 training days with interpersonal Skills LAB
For the two non-technical skills training days during the «PreFlight» we were able to win a top trainer from the human factors scene:
Gareth Lock from Human in the System, U.K. (www.humaninthesystem.co.uk). His Polish team member, Andrzej Gornicki, is co-training. Alexander Stork (CEO, NINECUBES) will also actively support the training – especially on the second day.

The trainings will be for the analog astronaut crew of the LunAres habitat as well as for all members of the command centre:

  • Training day 1 – with interpersonal Skills LAB basic version
An intense human factors training sequence will help increase situation awareness and improve communication skills for their upcoming collaboration in the habitat and command centre.
  • Training day 2 – with add-on module «Discovery of Nexus»
Discovery of Nexus simulates a multi-layer organisation with the command centre leading remote teams terraforming a planet. In this metaphoric world, the participants will improve their leadership and collaborative teamwork skills in an action-oriented scenario. The focus is on preparing for structured problem assessment, intent-based leadership/mission command, and therefore higher quality decisions during their real-world mission where remote and dislocated operations are the norm.

The training serials also provide a critically-important trust-building opportunity for the analog astronaut crew as well as for command centre and astronauts. This is critical because once the mission has started, communications will only happen via radio contact.

LunAres
The LunAres Research Station (lunares.space) is a leading private analog laboratory established in 2017 for simulating crewed space missions. The facility specialises in Lunar and Martian mission simulations with the focus of advancing scientific and technological research in crewed space exploration.

The mission
Terra Nova mission is organized as part of the AstroMentalHealth project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Polish Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. This is the ground-based part of one of thirteen Polish experiments that are being carried out during the first Polish technological and scientific mission to the International Space Station ISS with the participation of a Polish astronaut – Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski.

NINECUBES and its partners are proud to contribute to this exciting mission!
